If you are planning to become self-employed - e.g. you want to found a company as a legal body (GmbH, AG) or as a commercial partnership (KG, OHG, GbR) - you  have to register a trade. This registration process also has to be followed if you are planning to open a branch/agency of your existing company. In any case of an extension of the business/trade or change of location, a notification of this change is necessary also in case of termination or cessation of your business/trade/branch.

Furthermore a de-registration and a new registration is required, if you're going to establish your company in another town. Only notification of the change in address/location is not possible.

It is important that the registration, de-registration or notification of address change is only announced by a person, authorized to represent.

No allowance to any other person.

Depending on the legal status the authorized persons are different. Within the GmbH it is the executive director and in a commercial partnership the managing partner are the authorized persons.

Unfortunately it is not possible yet, to send these above mentioned registration and de-registration forms electronically, because orignal signature of the authorized representative is required. You can fill in the form, print it, sign it and mail it to the office of trade and commerce. Also your personal appearance will be appreciated.

A number of commercial processes and actions are based on special regulations. Craftsmen activities are bound to the necessary qualification of trade regularity (which have to be shown to the office of trade and commerce, provided that entry in the register of craftsmen cannot be proved).

Different kinds of permissions, licences and authorizations are demanded for a lot of other commercial activities.  E.g. leading an inn, bistro or restaurant, offering slot machines with profit opportunity, security services, auctions, pawnshops, brokerage,  trade with special goods (pharmaceutical, animals, arms and ammo) 'etc.

Some kind of businesses are under strict law. E.g. in branches like security services, detective services, marriage- and dating agencies, travel agencies'etc. In these cases you have to provide your police record and an official information form from the central commercial register.
