Gueltstein is situated in the upper Ammer valley. The village is located on the bank of the Ammer and arises at the ridge of the Naturepark Schoenbuch, which dominants the landscape.  Gueltstein is surrounded by a fertile landscape  with full fields and blooming plums- and cherry trees.

The fertile and climatic preferred region was early colonized. First settlements had been 4000 years ago. Gueltstein is the oldest settlement in the Gaeu region and the rural district Boeblingen. The first documentary mention was in the year 769. Originally an agricultural village which quickly developed into a residental village.

In 1965 international companies established their business in the industrial area of Gueltstein. Today a number of world-famous companies are located in Gueltstein and created 3000 new jobs. Also population rose up to 3.400 people in the year 2004.

Since 5-7-1975 Gueltstein has been a district of Herrenberg.

All streets and places in the village centre were completely renovated as part of the Land renovation programme. Among other things, the protected town hall, the 'Zehntscheuer' and the old school were renovated. This general improvement also created incentives for private initiative. Many private houses were renovated or rebuilt.

Gueltstein is convenient situated with direct connection to the motorway A81 (Lake Constance Motorway), two national higways (B28, B14 and L1184) and the 'Ammertalbahn' (railway) with regular link to Herrenberg and Tuebingen and connection to Stuttgart by S-Bahn. There are two bus connections to Herrenberg: to the schoolcentre, the indoor-swimming-pool and the hospital'etc.

In 2000 the southern bypass was constructed to reduce the heavy through traffic in the centre of Gueltstein.

The district office is located in the town hall, where almost all administrative matters can be dealt with. A local committee consisting of 10 members advises on matters affecting Gueltstein, which currently has 3 town concillors in Herrenberg town council.

In the castle of Gueltstein (Schloß Gueltstein) a congress- and coference centre for advanced trainings is located. The centre is arranged by the communal association.

Necessary local facilities in Gueltstein:

Banks, doctors, pharmacies, butchers, bakeries, grocery, post office and a super market. Two hotels, several restaurants and pubs can be found.
