Other suggested walks
1. Walk suggested by Herrenberg Forestry Office
Area Haslach Wood
From the Schulmeisterbuche to the Arboretum
2. Route
One way 3 km, 45 mins, there and back 6 km 90 mins.
Start at the Town Hall, up the steps, past the Foundation Church towards Schlossberg, past the old, well-preserved town wall. From the reconstructed viewing platform in the castle grounds to the Rotes Meer, past the Old Oak natural monument towards Schoenbuch. After 30 minutes you come to a fine glade in the wood called the Alter Rain, with Jahn hut, playground and barbecue area. This is a pleasant place to take a rest. From here it is a ten minute walk to the Naturfreundhaus. Opposite this a path leads along by the cemetery in the woods and in a further five minutes you reach the game enclosure.
3. Route
9 km, 1.30-2 h
For this second walk we can take the first walk as our starting point or else the car park by the cemetery near the woods. From the cemetery walk to the right along the Koenigsweg. By the edge of the wood on the same level as the Moenchberg you come to the Moenchberg Saddle with its fine view over the upper Gaeu. From there continue along the Kayh Talstrasse until you come to the Urschelrain. Turn in here and go past the Sommertal pond to the Fresseiche, then back along the Sommertal to the Waldfriedhof car park (next to the cemetery).
4. Route
14 km, c. 3 h
This day walk involves going in a wide arc around some of the routes already described. Continue from the Urschelrain along the Kayher Talstrasse to the new bridge with barbecue area and children's playground. Then along the Lindach on the Maedertalstrasse to the 24 beeches with a rest area. Continue on the Bebenhaeuserstrasse past the rosshauhuette towards the game enclosure and back to the Waldfriedhof car park.
5. Route
9 km, 1.30-2 h
This is a cherry blossom walk at the end of April/beginning of May. The Herrenberg indoor swimming pool is the starting point. Take the B 28 underpath, then continue along Ziegelfeldweg and the grassy path towards the motorway. Path under the motorway along the Schoenbuchtrauf towards Moenchberg with various places to stop and eat. Fine views over the Upper Gaeu to the Swabian Alps. From Moenchberg via the Appenhaldenweg through fields towards the motorway. Path under the motorway and across the grassy path and the Ziegelfeldweg back to the indoor pool.
6. Route
11 km, about 2 h
An alternative to the above route would be to branch off after the path under the motorway. You walk towards Gueltstein and cross the bridge over the B 28. At the entrance to Gueltstein back via the Gutleuhaustaele to the car park next to the indoor pool.
