In 2004 the Cultural Route was awarded to the "Cultural Route of the Council of Europe" in the 'Straßburger Palais de L'Europe' by the Council of Europe. The road is leading from the French Montbéliard via the towns Freudenstadt, Tübingen, Herrenberg up to Backnang and Metzingen.
19 towns and cities bear the mark of the work of Heinrich Schickhardt as a master builder of Duke Friedrich I. of Wuerttemberg, as a man of letters of the Renaissance as well as the wide spectrum of prominent culture, wonderful landscapes and history-charged towns.
Herrenberg, as the native town of Heinrich Schickhardt, may not be missed to be mentioned. Shields at the buildings in Tübinger Straße 15 (birthplace) and Bronngasse 6 ("Mein Heinrich Schickhardts Behausung") indicate the character of the master builder. A circuit through the historical old town points out the significant marks. The award of the "European Cultural Route" shall encourage European people to explore this route for a better understanding of the history and a promotion of cultural tourism.
Brochures are available at the tourist information of the town Herrenberg:
Marktplatz 5, 71083 Herrenberg. (phone: 0 70 32 ' 92 42 24, Fax 0 70 32 ' 92 43 65, e-mail: stadt@no-spam-pleaseherrenberg.de)
