Herrenberg lies in the middle of the Gaeu, the area between the Black Forest and Schoenbuch. It is notable for its unique historical old town and the Foundation Church which overlooks it. But there is more that makes it worth to visit this region.
The Green Island in the Stuttgart Region
Herrenberg is situated on the edge of the Schoenbuch nature park, which begins just behind the old town.
It is the oldest nature park in Baden-Wuerttemberg. Covering an area of over 150 sq. km, it consists largely of woodland and is an ideal local recreational area for visitors from near and far.
Over 4 million people visit the park every year. Popular excursion destinations include Hohenentringen with its Swabian vesper (a typical local snack) with cider, Bebenhausen Monastery or the romantic Goldersbachtal can be reached on a network of well-marked bike and walking paths.

Here the nature lover will find 84 places for making campfires, 38 children's playgrounds in the woods, 75 shelters, 38 wells and sources of water, sport paths, nature trails and game enclosures.
However not only the Schoenbuch but also the Gaeu is a worthwhile excursion destination. A walk through the blossoming cherry and plum trees in late April and early May is one of the highlights of every year.
